X Jubilee International Festival of Fine Arts “Traditions and Modernity” was held in the Central Exhibition Hall “Manezh” from May 26 to 31, 2016.
This year the scale of the festival was unprecedented – in the exhibition space of Manezh were presented works of more than 500 participants from more than 30 countries, including Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Angola, Bulgaria, Belgium, Brazil, Great Britain, Guadeloupe, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, China, Colombia, Cyprus, France, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Turkey, USA, Turkey, Estonia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and USA.
During the ten years of the project’s existence in Russia and abroad (in 2014-15 it was held in Portugal), the festival has attracted almost 5 thousand galleries and artists from more than 50 countries and 60 regions of Russia, hosted 3 million. visitors. After Moscow, the festival will go to Portugal again. Angola, China and other countries have also applied to host it, making it one of the largest and most high profile in the world.
The main mission of the festival “Traditions and Modernity” is to show the whole palette of world art in the field of painting, graphics, sculpture and applied art, to gather all trends and directions of modern culture in one exhibition space, to bring the art of different countries and peoples closer, to present original works reflecting national traditions.
The aim of the festival is to support talented artists, not only famous masters, but also emerging young artists, discovering new names in contemporary art.
Every year, based on the results of the festival, a special International Award in the field of fine arts “VERA” was awarded. The international jury and honorary committee of the festival included prominent figures of Russian and world culture, such as: Honorary Director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Sergei Khachaturov. Tair Salakhov, People’s Artist of the USSR, Russia and Azerbaijan, winner of the State Prizes of the USSR, Azerbaijan and Russia, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, is the Chairman of the Jury. This year’s VERA Award was presented in 19 categories, including painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, and applied art. Two special awards were also presented for Modern Classic and Best Exhibit. The award ceremony took place on the last day of the festival on May 31 in the Theater Hall of the Moscow International Music Theater. The presenters of the award were Dmitry Kharatyan and Maria Kiseleva. The special guest is Oleg Lundstrem’s Orchestra, celebrating the 100th anniversary of its creator in 2016. Soloists – Anna Buturlina, Alexey Minchenko, Juliana Rogacheva, Sophie Okran, Marie Carné, Inna Subbotina and pupils of the production center “Ekol”.
Within the framework of the X Jubilee International Festival of Fine Arts “Traditions and Modernity” a special project “Formalism of the XXI century” was organized. The project offered an exhibition of works by artists collaborating with renowned contemporary art galleries, including Regina, Artwin, Fine Art, Regina, Artstory and others. The focus of the project is to investigate the relevance of classical parameters of image creation in the formation of modern language. Other projects of the festival: “Art of CIS countries”, “Distant and Close” (participants from far abroad), “Doll as a Work of Art”, “Good Cause” (artists with disabilities) and others. Another separate exposition was an exhibition of the winning works of previous years.
Festival Objectives:
– preservation of the world’s cultural heritage;
– support of professional contemporary art and artistic creation;
– establishment of creative contacts between participants and improvement of their professional level in the process of communication and exchange of experience;
– promotion of international cooperation of artists, expansion of contacts and relations with foreign colleagues, strengthening of international ties and cooperation through creativity;
– promoting professional consolidation of artists working in various fields of art;
– to familiarize a wide audience with the best artistic works of individual authors and art in general;
– professional evaluation of works of painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, architecture, photography and applied art;
– holding master classes, forums, conferences, round tables within the Festival.
The X International Festival of Fine Arts “Traditions and Modernity” is held under the auspices of UNESCO and with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the International Foundation “World without Borders”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Moscow City Hall, the Department of Culture of Moscow and the Russian Academy of Arts. The festival is organized by the Moscow Public Foundation for Support of Culture and Development of Contemporary Art.
